For years, you have worked that corporate job that promises retirement because it’s what the world tells you to do. Go to school, get a degree, get a so-called stable job, work until you’re ready to retire, and then retire. But business owners like me aren’t wired that way. I’m constantly thinking of new, bigger, and better ideas. Back when I worked in an office, I was always thinking, “Why are we doing it this way?” I’m always asking questions. It was in my DNA to quit my 9-to-5 job and follow my own destiny, and that’s what I did.
Yes, it’s hard to do that. Yes, it’s going to take a long time. But at the end of the day, you have to ask: Are you doing what God made you do?
I have decided to create my own life, not let some company decide for me. To some traditionalists, I might be a failure, but to myself, I’m a success.
If you’re happy with your corporate job and you actually love what you do, then, by all means, stop reading and close this window on your computer. But something tells me you want more than what you have. We all do.
It’s up to you to make that move.
When I first started out in business, I had so many ideas and was too scared to pull the trigger on any of them. Then my friend Josh told me about his business idea: selling t-shirts. I love it! I kid you not, it seems like every business owner has started a t-shirt business at some point in their lives. It’s like ghetto business school lesson number one! Start a t-shirt business and sell them to the world and get rich. But in reality, you soon realize that everyone and their mother has a t-shirt business. And then you give up! Well, that’s where I come in to tell you: Don’t give up! Just because someone else has something similar to yours, doesn’t mean you can’t start something better. Something that makes you different.
Just because we usually fail at our first business, doesn’t mean we should give up. Continue to search and when the time is right, you’ll find your treasure. So what if your friends and family think you’re nuts?
